A Message to Our Community

A Special Edition

Over more than forty years, EYFC’s mission has been to provide and support a comprehensive array of services for area children, youth and families. We serve as a hub of essential services that enhance the economic, social, educational, and health needs of low-income, primarily Hispanic residents here in southern Alameda County. Because of COVID-19, our community is facing an unprecedented health and economic challenge.

For the duration of the COVID-19 state of emergency, EYFC’s offices are closed, but remain fully operating, by calling 510-887-1146. We are open for business and our extremely capable, and dedicated employees will continue to work hard to advocate for our community. Our employees are highly adept problem solvers even in the most challenging circumstances and are prepared to adapt to our communities changing needs.

EYFC is both a service provider and the facilities manager for 7 community organizations operating out of our 680 West Tennyson Road building. Although the majority of our partner service providers are closed, we are still offering the following services:

• Silva Pediatric Clinic of the Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center: Due to COVID-19 the Silva Clinic (pediatric clinic) schedule is Monday –Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. throughout the shelter in place orders as an essential service (please call 510-471- 5907 x3504 for assistance)

• Hayward Community School is closed while staff continue to provide distance learning, meal service and information/referrals (please call 510-670-7697 for assistance

• Kidango preschool, infant and toddler care: neighborhood site is closed but offering childcare to first responders and essential service workers at their main site, and providing resources and Learning Kits online via Kidango@home. Meals are distributed to the families enrolled with Kidango Monday through Friday onsite at EYFC (please call 510-782-6084 for assistance)

• Eden Computer Clubhouse is closed but providing learning tools to members through social media; virtual meetings with youth, virtual case management (please call 510-887-1146 for assistance). We are working to ensure all students have the technology and internet service for successful distance learning, weekly Artistic Challenge with prizes, and Saturday night hangouts for youth to connect with friends online COVID-19 Resources in Multiple Languages EYFC Resources

• Hayward Coalition for Healthy Youth office is closed, but we are continuing to meet Virtually and are actively developing materials and training to educate Hayward families about mindfulness/coping with COVID-19 anxiety and youth substance abuse in the home. • Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is continuing to develop a mindfulness/coping skills/prevention curriculum aimed at addressing the root cause of youth substance abuse. YAC develops leadership and advocacy skills and provides a volunteer opportunity for Hayward youth during this difficult time. For more information please call Jennifer Duncan at 808-489-3967

• Tobacco Decoy Program Activities; are closed while law enforcement staff continue to provide frontline services

• EYFC Information and Referral, providing bilingual wellness resources, referrals to health and mental health agencies, mentorship for youth, in-house case management, advocacy efforts, and outreach services. For further information please call 510-887-1146

• The Center for Child Protection at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, Hayward satellite office is closed while free trauma-focused psychotherapy services continue through the medical center. For more information please call 510-428- 3588 x5089

• The Ever Forward Club A mentor-led, year-long youth-development and mentoring program for young men in grades six through twelve. The organization’s signature program, the Club provides an environment for young men to navigate life challenges and human emotions they are often not given the space, or the tools, to do so safely. • Iglesia de Dios Fuente de Vida A Church that lives the word of God, that projects the family union, establishes healthy families and is involved in the great commission. A congregation sensitive to the need of others, empowered and guided by the Holy Spirit to help, restore, and build the life of the community. For more information call 650-814-1777

• Baha’i Junior Youth Programs are Designed to help young adolescents between the ages of 11-14 develop into focused, happy and productive teenagers and young adults, junior youth groups teach the crucial moral, spiritual and ethical skills society often fails to transmit to this important age group.
