New Start is a program that provides the removal of visible gang and drug related tattoos to youth in the Eden and Tri-Cities geographical areas. The services include tattoo removal, goal setting and group support of young people, 13-25 years of age, who are seeking positive change.
Hayward New Start is a cooperative effort of the City of Hayward Mayor, Kaiser Permanente of Hayward, Eden Youth and Family Center, St. Rose Hospital and Eden Medical Center.
Tattoo removal raises self-esteem, increase job opportunities, connects with youth with the community, and increases personal safety.
The program requirements and criteria are:
- Must be a resident of Central Alameda County
- Must employed, enrolled in school or receiving job training
- Must complete 50 hours of community service through community mentors
- Must attend monthly meetings
The community mentors assist participants in completing their community services and their goals.
