Hayward Community School
Overview
The Hayward Community School is a joint venture between the Alameda County Office of Education and the school districts. The Hayward Community School provide educational opportunities for referred students, ages 12-17 years, whose behaviors prevents their success in a regular school settings. Enrollment is for one semester and may continue for the school year.
The mission is to:
- Recognize students strength and to provide the necessary life skills to succeed in their personal and professional lives.
- Empower students to feel secure at school as they learn positive attitudes, practice positive behaviors, and work to achieve positive goals.
- Educate students to proactively resolve concerns and issues and prepare them to identify their transferable skills, knowledge and talents.
- Apply themselves as they pursue post-secondary education, careers and personal development.
Classes offered include:
- English
- Math
- Social Science
- Science
- Health
There is 12:1 student-teacher ratio, with individualized, on-going student assessment and program evaluation. There is group and individual counseling and mental health services.
The Hayward Community School is a joint venture between the Alameda County Office of Education and the school districts. There are currently:
- 4 teachers (2 high school/2 middle school),
- 1 instructor-in-charge (in lieu of principal),
- 1 administrative assistant,
- 3 instructional aides,
- 2 counselors,
- 1 RSP and,
- 1 transitory aid.
